Body Acne

What is body acne?

Whenever some person talks about the acne or we get to hear something regarding the skin problem of acne, what comes first in our minds? The only answer is acne on the face as it is the most basic amongst different kinds of acne. But, acne can be suffered in almost any part of the body such as neck, shoulders, upper arms and back. Thus, body acne is a bit more difficult to cure than the facial acne as the entire body needs to be covered with proper clothing almost every single second.

Body acne can also develop to very serious phase in which the cysts appear on skin thereby causing scars and blemishes in some cases. And as soon as the body acne starts to appear, one should consult the dermatologist to get proper treatment as soon as possible as the body acne can actually cause severe discomfort to the sufferer. Also, body acne should also not be picked or scrubbed as it can lead to further spreading of the acne. Body area infected with acne should be properly cleaned and not be scrubbed.

The primary causes behind body acne are somewhat similar to the facial acne. Acne is actually caused as a result of the pore clogging because of excessive secretion of oil. Body acne is actually not caused as a result of any hygienic reasons but by the hormones called as androgens that stimulate the sebaceous glands for producing extra oils thereby resulting in the formation of acne. Areas which are generally affected by this body acne are shoulders, buttocks and chest area. It is actually identifiable by the big red spots that can be painful as well as itchy. In serious cases, these red spots can even swell and become really inflamed.

The body acne treatment might be same as the ones available for face acne. Begin by washing the body with the help of a shower gel or soap that contains salicylic acid. Once you have washed the body properly, dry it using a clean and soft towel. Ensure that the skin is fully dry and do not run the towel too harshly on the skin. Acne cannot be totally cured but it may be managed and can be a real challenge and that too when the body acne is there with widespread lesions. Treating acne needs a lot of patience. It can take some months to make difference. Also, if you have severely bad acne case, it might take a very long time as well.
